What was new in 1999 in the Revelation Pages?
by Douglas Brown Drama Co-ordinator & web site admin
6th October 1999
First off, an apology for this update being so late. On the 11th July,
my kids trashed my computer and I lost everything. That's right; a hard
bitten cynical IT professional like me did not have a backup. If nothing
else, it has been a useful exercise in humility and forgiveness ... and
I now backup regularly.
Now the news. The web site may have "slept" for a while, but Revelation has forged ahead.
- "Burning Questions" has proved very popular. We are presenting it again in October and December. See Diary of events for details.
- Plans are shaping up for our activities in 2000. See our Plans for 2000.
- Douglas has stood down from being Drama Co-ordinator for a while. This is to allow him time to produce "Hopes & Dreams" in Yateley 2000, using a cast of hundreds. See the section "other sites related to the live performing Christian arts" on the Christian Links page.
- Paula Darrall has stood down from her role of Assistant Music Co-ordinator and from playing keyboard for Revelation. She intends to use the time to pursuing further her calling in leading worship through music. She also wants to train others in this calling. We wish her well in this endeavour.
- It's not goodbye, though. Paula will still help with Revelation presentations, as a sound engineer.
- Steve Hunt (Revelation drama director) has kindly stepped into the breach on keyboard, until we recruit a replacement for Paula. Anyone interested?
- Web site stuff : latest news updated, general tidy up, broken links removed - the usual, except ...
- ... Multimap.com is now our favoured supplier of street maps. This web site is now capable of displaying street maps anywhere in the UK, given only a postcode or map reference. Even better : it's free.
10 July 1999
Time is short - another presentation to prepare for. Consequently, not much is new this time. I hope to give a full update (with pictures) on how "Burning Questions" has gone so far in the next update.
- Don't forget our next presentation is at Holy Tinity, Sunningdale. See Diary of events for details.
- The presentation at St Barnabas went well. From the comments we received over "coffee-fellowship" afterwards, there was something for everyone in terms of being moved by God's message.
- We have joined UKIRN : UK + Ireland Revival Newsletter. Occasionally we contribute announcements about forthcoming presentations. I was particularly moved by a comment added by the Surrey Co-ordinator to our last announcement ... "Be there, and be blessed". Amen to that; we pray that happens.
- More bookings for "Burning Questions" are coming in for October, and possibly December. We'll put the details into the diary when they are finalised (hopefully soon).
- See the "Burning Questions" page for a brilliant cartoon by a talented junior artist.
17th June 1999
The repesentation tour of "Burning Questions" is looming. With God's
help rehearsals are going well, and it looks it is going to be a great
show. To that end, I have updated the web site mainly with details about
the show and the venues ...
- The repertoire page for "Burning
Questions" has been completed. It now has a synopsis, the programme
notes, and the programme/poster logo.
- The Diary of events now has full details
on how to get to both our venues for "Burning Questions". This will be
St. Barnabas' Church on the 27th June 1999 at 6:30. Hand drawn street
maps have been added for both venues, along with photos of the
buildings, environs, and landmarks.
- On a similar theme, I have (at last) added photos and a street map
for our usual rehearsal venue. If you were thinking of joining us, we'd
love to meet you at any of our workshops; just drop in. The details are
on our Members pages.
- Finally, no web site update would be complete without a new Current Christian Chuckle.
24th May 1999
So much to do, so much to tell you, and so little time ... Sorry this
update is so late, but as you'll see, we have been rather busy of
late!
So. What's the latest in the web site, then? ...
- The rehearsals for "Burning Questions" are now under way for presentation in June/July. The auditions are over, and we are all working hard to learn our lines and songs. See "What's next".
- The Members pages are expanding. They now contain the rehearsal schedule for "Burning Questions" ...
- ... which has been removed from the Diary of events.
- Our plans for Winter 1999-2000 are in flux - See our Plans for 1999.
- I am being loaned (I volunteered, honest) to a Churches Together committee to help plan Yateley's "Hopes & Dreams" event in 2000 - See our Plans for 2000.
- To reward the faithful fans of the Jokes page, we have a new Current Christian Chuckle. I hope you agree it was worth waiting for this one - it certainly made me laugh uproariously! And to whet your appetite, I have a few more to go in the next site update ...
- The web site visit counter broke through 700 last week. Just thought I'd mention it. :-)
11th April 1999
- The Diary of events now contains details of the presentations of Burning Questions. Workshop dates are included for members.
- Membership subscription fees are to be introduced. Members, please read the new Member's pages for details.
22nd March 1999
- The structure of the Diary of events is
now complete. Details of events will go into it as soon as we know them
ourselves. Of course, suggestions for corrections and updates are always welcome!
- Speaker's Corner has a new article. We
would like to introduce you to a group called "Acts for God".
- Ever anxious to get our site publicised, we have registered with the
"Awesome Christian Sites" directory. If you like our site, please click on the
animated "Awesome" voting button (on most pages). I'm told it does wonderful
things for our "rankings", and that this is a "good thing". It won't
cost you anything. Also, the button will take you to their wonderful
resources and links, and it will help us reach a wider readership too.
- Finally, this week, Revelation is pleased to announce we have a
mailing list for announcements. It's on our home page, here.
15th March 1999
- This week's update is a week late (like any software project). Humble apologies to last weeks visitors. I hope the wait was worth it?
- The drama group is finally posting the latest newsletter (no. 6) to
its mailing list. Yes, it really is in the post (OK, nearly). However, if
you can't wait to receive your copy, you can read it here first.
- The diary page has been started. This is just the beginning; watch out for further improvements.
- Revelation now has a new page that states our shared vision of our faith. Click here to read it. If members wish to suggest any improvements, please contact Douglas.
- Joke of the week is dead - Long live the Current Christian Chuckle (and if you can think of a better title, contact Douglas)
1st March 1999
- The Revelation web site is now 3 months old. Some statistics ...
- It has expanded from about 6 pages to 40.
- We now have 46 graphics, mainly small ones for speedy downloads.
- The web site now occupies 2.2Mb. Luckily Tripod gives away 15Mb of space so there is still plenty of room.
- We have had around 380 visitors.
- Our readership has increased from nothing to about 40 each week.
- THANKS TO ALL OF YOU, OUR READERS, FOR YOUR PRAYERS AND SUPPPORT.
- All that's reallly new this week is Joke of the week. This is my last new joke, so unless any more come in, the "Joke of the Week" spot will be renamed "the latest joke" ... or some such. Any better suggestions anyone?
- One minor correction to note : Two jokes had the same title in the index. Fixed - sorry.
- Future developments : Watch out for a new diary section, sometime soon.
22nd February 1999
-
We have a whole new section called Speaker's
Corner. This is where members and guests can write about issues
(related to our work) that concerns us. I hope this will become, in
time, a useful resource for many Christians involved in the performing
arts.
- Oh dear, the housework is never done. This time I have tried to improve the speed in downloading the Christian Links page.
- Also a slight reorganisation of the navigation bar. I hope it makes a bit more sense now?
- On the bright side, we have another Joke of the week (thanks again to Dennis).
18th February 1999
- A quick mid-week update : we have joined a couple of Christian banner exchange schemes. The banners are on the home page.
- If you are visiting via one of these schemes, welcome! We hope you like what you see here.
15th February 1999
- Joke of the week has had a reprieve this week (thanks to Rev. Alan Costello). Any more Christian jokes anyone?
- Performed some minor surgery on the links page. Apologies to anyone inconvenienced by the missing banner & broken link.
- If you ever discover on our pages a broken link, or missing banner, please contact Douglas.
9th February 1999
- This week is probably the last week we shall have a Joke of the week spot. We seem to have exhausted the world's supply of Christian jokes ... unless you know better, in which case please contact Douglas.
- More photos in the Revelation Photo Album.
- The drama group is already appealing for actors to come forward for our presentation of "Burning Questions" in June-July 1999. There are a lot of sketches, and a few monologues; enough for everyone to have at least one part each.
- A new drama group newsletter is being prepared and should be available on the web site soon - watch this pace.
- December has been "pencilled in" for a repeat tour of "The Carpenter's Saga". Click here for details.
2nd February 1999
- Joke of the week has been
updated.
- The proposed tour of "Burning Questions" has had to be slipped back
another month to June-July. The dates of the workshops (for members) will be published soon.
29th January 1999
- At last, it's here. The first page of the Revelation Photo Album has arrived, featuring the music group and some of the drama group. Enjoy.
- Oh, and another minor tidy up. The house keeping is never done.
25th January 1999
- An embarrassing admission : I gave the wrong date for the last presentation of Simeon. It's not 31st January 199, but 7th February. The What is next?" page has now been changed. My sincere apologies to anyone who took note of the wrong date. Send your donations of sackcloth & ashes to Douglas Brown.
- Back on schedule : A new Joke of the week.
20th January 1999
- A new Joke of the week. Sorry it's a bit late this time.
- We now have new banners. The old ones are still on our website (so other author's web pages will still display them) - just no longer available via our links page.
- With new banners it seemed time for a bit of a face-lift. I hope you like it.
8th January 1999
- HAPPY NEW YEAR to all our readers.
- Attention, all Chistian Webmasters. We have upgraded our links page. Drop in, have a look and see if you
would like us to include a link to your site. How about an exchange of banners?
- To reward you for being patient, we have a new Joke of the week ...
- ... AND some more Lightbulb jokes!
If I receive any more I'll have to give them their own page :-)
- Reminder: Now the Christmas break is over we are returning our
thoughts back to presentations of "Simeon", booked later this month and
in February. Click here for details.
- Regarding the tour of "Burning Questions": it looks as though this
tour will now take place in the May-June period. See our Plans for 1999.
- Finally, many thanks to all the "Prayer Warriors" who supported our
efforts in 1998. Your petitions were most appreciated. Let's go on and
make 1998 even more successful.
